Mission 3 - Feelings Tell Stories

You've already learnt how to:

❀️ Notice what happened.

πŸ’› Notice how you felt.

πŸ’š Wonder about the story your mind began to tell.

Now Olivia Owl has another piece of wisdom...

Sometimes...

the thing that happened stays exactly the same...

but our feelings can change the story we tell ourselves.

Olivia smiles and says,

"Let's investigate together."

Β

Step 1

Β

The Same Thought

Look at this thought...

🌧️ "It's raining."

Different feelings might tell different stories.

Worried

"My picnic is ruined."

Angry

"This isn't fair!"

Sad

"Nothing ever goes right for me."

Calm

"That's okay.

We'll think of something else to do."

Excited

"Yay!

Puddle jumping!"

Β

Step 2

Β

What Changed?

Olivia asks...

❀️ Did the rain change?

πŸ’› Did the feeling change?

πŸ’š Did the story change?

Take a moment to think.

Β

Step 3

Β

Feather Detective

Today, see if you can notice times when people feel differently about the same thing.

Maybe someone is excited...

while someone else feels worried.

Maybe someone feels cross...

while someone else feels calm.

Every time you notice different feelings about the same situation...

🎨 Colour one of Olivia Owl's feathers.

Can you colour all of her feathers by the end of the week?

Β

Family Chat

Β

Take turns sharing.

❀️ Tell us what happened.

πŸ’› Tell us how you felt.

πŸ’š What story did your mind create?

πŸ’™ Could someone else have felt differently about the very same thing?

Listen carefully.

There are no right or wrong answers.

Olivia Says

Β

"Feelings are always welcome.

Thoughts are just thoughts.

Stories are not always the whole truth.

Wise owls notice that everyone sees the world a little differently."
