Lesson 8- Feeling and Holding with Feel It Fiona

Lesson 8: Feeling and Holding with Feel It Fiona

💛 Introduction

This gentle lesson introduces children to Feel It Fiona, who helps us understand that all feelings are welcome.

Children learn that they do not need to push feelings away or hide them.

Instead, they can gently notice, feel, and hold their emotions in a safe and supported way.

This lesson brings together everything children have explored, helping them feel calm, confident, and understood.

🎯 Learning Focus

  • Children understand that all feelings are welcome

  • Children learn they can feel emotions safely

  • Children begin to build emotional acceptance

  • Children feel supported and reassured

🌿 What You’ll Need

  • Feel It Fiona character card or soft toy (optional)

  • Calm, safe and comfortable space

  • Optional quiet music or calming atmosphere

🧠 Lesson Overview

Begin by introducing Feel It Fiona as the character who reminds us that all feelings are okay.

Explain that:

  • Everyone has lots of different feelings

  • Feelings can feel big or small

  • We don’t need to get rid of feelings

  • We can gently hold them until they pass

Reassure children that they are safe, and that feelings always change.

🐻 Activity - Feel and Hold

Gather children together and guide them through a gentle moment of noticing and holding a feeling.

Use simple, calming language such as:

"Fiona helps us sit with our feelings, just as they are…"

Invite children to:

Sit or lie comfortably

Notice how they feel

Place a hand on their heart or body

Take a slow breath in… and out

Imagine holding their feeling gently

Keep this moment soft and short, allowing children to feel safe and supported.

💬 Reflection

Ask gentle questions such as:

  • How did that feel?

  • Did anything change?

  • What helped you feel safe?

Remind children that:

Feelings come and go, and they are never alone with them.

🌈 Bringing It Into the Day

You can revisit this throughout the day by saying:

  • "Let’s take a moment to feel and hold"

  • "It’s okay to feel like this"

  • "We can sit with this together"

This helps children build emotional safety and acceptance.

🌿 Gentle Reminder

This is not about changing how children feel.

It is about helping them feel safe enough to experience their emotions, knowing they will pass.
