🧠 Lesson Overview
Begin by introducing Delia Dolphin as the character who helps us share our feelings.
Explain that:
-
Sometimes we want to talk about how we feel
-
Sometimes we might not feel ready to share
-
We can use words, actions, or creative ways to express ourselves
-
Listening is just as important as speaking
Let children know that they can always choose if and how they want to share.
🐬 Activity - Finding Our Voice
Gather children together and create a calm, safe sharing space.
Use simple language such as:
"Delia Dolphin helps us share what is inside."
Invite children to:
-
Share a feeling (if they would like to)
-
Use a word, gesture, or sound
-
Use a puppet or object to 'speak' for them
-
Listen to others respectfully
-
Practise asking for help
You can model examples:
"Today I feel happy, and I want to share that."
Or:
"I don’t feel like sharing today, and that’s okay."
💬 Reflection
Ask gentle questions such as:
-
How did it feel to share?
-
How did it feel to listen?
-
What helps you feel safe to talk?
Reassure children that:
Sharing looks different for everyone and all ways are okay.
🌈 Bringing It Into the Day
You can revisit communication throughout the day by saying:
-
"Would you like to share?"
-
"You can tell me in your own way."
-
"I am here to listen."
This helps children build trust and confidence in expressing themselves.
