Lesson 1: Understanding the Feel It Triangle

💛 Introduction

This foundational lesson introduces children to the Feel It Framework, a gentle and child-friendly approach to emotional awareness and wellbeing.

Children learn that all feelings are natural and welcome, and begin to understand how their body, heart and mind work together.

This lesson creates a shared language that can be used across the classroom every day.

🎯 Learning Focus

  • Children understand the Feel It Triangle

  • Children learn that emotions move and change

  • Children feel reassured that all feelings are okay

🌿 What You’ll Need

  • Feel It Triangle poster

  • Character images

  • Mini Magical Minds World image

🧠 Lesson Overview

Begin by introducing the Feel It Triangle as a simple way to understand how we feel.

Explain that:

  • The body tells us how we feel physically

  • The heart holds our feelings

  • The mind helps us think and make sense of things

  • Let children know that everyone moves around the triangle throughout the day - and that this is a normal part of being human.

🐾 Activity

Gather children together and show the Feel It Triangle.

Use simple language such as:

Sometimes our body feels wiggly or tight,

sometimes our heart feels happy, sad or worried,

and sometimes our mind is busy thinking.

Invite children to:

  • Notice how their body feels right now

  • Share a feeling if they would like to

  • Talk about what their mind might be thinking

You can model examples to support children:

"My body feels a little tired today, my heart feels calm, and my mind is thinking about our day together."

💬 Reflection

Ask gentle questions such as:

  • What does your body feel like today?

  • Can you name a feeling?

  • What helps you feel calm or safe?

Reassure children that:

All feelings are okay, and we can always find ways to help ourselves feel safe and supported.

🌈 Bringing It Into the Day

You can revisit the Feel It Triangle throughout the day by asking:

  • "Where are you in the triangle right now?"

  • "What might help your body or your feelings?"

This helps children begin to build awareness and use the language naturally.

🌿 Gentle Reminder

This is not about fixing or changing how children feel.

It is about helping them understand themselves, feel safe, and know that all feelings are welcome.
